Janazah Wa Dafnu – Funeral and Burial of a Muslim or Muslimah. Preparing For The Inevitable Death Of A Believing Muslim

Have You Prepared For The Inevitable?

JWD was established in 2019 right before the pandemic swept the world. It took this much time to get back on track as the ummah and masjid returned to normal life. JWD is a spin off from JPP or Janazah Preparation Plan, a plan that was backed by Aegon Transamerica and that permitted Muslims to get burial insurance for as little as $8.53 per month, depending on age, gender and other factors. With more years of knowledge and wisdom and based upon market trends and experience, we have evolved to what JWD purports today. Our mission is to make sure every Muslim and Muslimah in America and the West, and then the entire world, is properly prepared for death and the Janazah Wa Dafnu process and that No Muslim Left Behind becomes a reality when it pertains to death. We want to take care of death so that the focus on life can be much greater knowing that the finality of life is already
covered. Inshallah.

Step 1: Get Your JWD Membership!

Membership is very important to the overall plan and mission of JWD. We are seeking a minimum of 1,000,000 (one million) members. Large numbers of membership gives us bargaining and purchasing power so we can negotiate lower rates and purchase in bulk, thus reducing the costs across all the JWD members. We are here to serve Allah and the ummah and we want the entire ummah islamiyyah to participate; even if the Muslim or Muslimah has his or her affairs in order already we still need and want his or her membership. Here’s why: There are many Muslims that are not prepared to meet death. Your membership will help to cover the costs of those who have yet to help themselves or that are not financially able to do so. Your reward is with and comes from Allah (swt), The All-Seeing, All-Hearing, All-Knowing Accountant.

Your membership allows us to buy land nationwide for cemeteries, buy burial plots and establish Muslim sections in existing cemeteries, get deals on final expense or end of life insurance policies, get deals on headstones and grave markers, pay for Muslims to become morticians and funeral directors for our community, and much more. Like prayer said in groups is greater than prayer said alone, membership in JWD increases the value of each member’s life and death. Join JWD for only $1.99 per year.

Step 2: Get Your JWD Guide!

Do you and/or your spouse or family know what to do when death occurs at home, in the streets, in a hospital or nursing home, while traveling? Who do you call, what actions need to be taken? Do you and your family know the telephone numbers to the local Emergency Response Services besides dialing 911? Who is going to perform your janazah? Do you have a burial plot paid for already? Do you have insurance policies? Do you have car, mortgage, credit card, subscriptions and monthly membership payments to make? How about scheduled medical appointments? Do you have retirements accounts, IRA, 401(k), and other savings? Do you have safety deposit boxes? Where are your money, treasures and assets kept? Do you have a Will, a Living Will or Advanced Healthcare Directives? Do you have an estate or trust? Are you a Veteran or member of the U.S. Military? What does your spouse, family and/or loved ones really know about you and your affairs? What will they do when you return to Allah? JWD has created a guide that reveals the truth about you and your affairs, your assets, debts and holdings.

Step 3: Get Your Janazah of End of Life Insurance! (Optional)

All Muslims in America and the West will incur costs for funerals and burials; death is not for free! If the Muslim does not have money set aside for a funeral and burial then the surviving spouse, children, family members and/or the Muslim community will have to cover these costs. Why pass this burden onto others when you know as a Believer that Allah (swt) has told you that you will taste death? Do not be irresponsible and negligent! Get insured! Even if the insurance only covers the costs of the funeral and burial, you will have lifted a financial burden off your loved ones and community. You can get life insurance, burial insurance, end of life or final expense insurance for cheap and get enough for the funeral and burial costs. A policy with a death benefit of at least $20,000.00 should do the job. Explore your options and get what you need, but at least get your janazah covered.

Step 4: Get Your Islamic Last Will and Testament!

What you want to happen with your human remains and property left behind after your death is your decision to make. Although Allah (swt) has detailed the proper distribution of wealth, assets and property upon the death of a male and female Muslim and Muslimah is Suran 4, An-Nisaa’a, The Women, Muslims have the right to do whatever they want to do, so having an Islamic Will primarily makes sure that you are buried as Muslim or Muslimah and that you are not embalmed or cremated or treated as a non-Muslim. Your Islamic Last Will and Testament protects your rights and fulfills your last wishes. Get your Will!

Step 5: Get Your Living Will or Advanced Healthcare Directives!

Many times a person can get injured or critically ill and lose the ability to make sound decisions competently. When this happens, healthcare and emergency personnel must obey the law and try to save lives by any medical and appropriate means available. Some of these procedures are against Islamic traditions and must be avoided by the Muslims. In order to protect your rights and body, complete the Advanced Healthcare Directives, have them notarized, and then keep them in a safe place so that when the time comes, your wishes are respected.

Step 6: Get Your Kaffan or Janazah Kit!

Every Muslim and Muslimah, regardless of age, is buried in a shroud made of cotton. The procedures to safely wash and wrap the body of the deceased Muslim and Muslimah and prepare it for interment include 3-5 pieces of cloth coverings that can be purchased in advance of the need. Without a kaffan or janazah kit, those in charge of ghusl and janazah preparation have to purchase the fabric and make the pieces for the deceased. You can alleviate this cost and step by purchasing your kaffan or janazah kit and have them readily available in your home or office. You should let your spouse and responsible children and your imam and/or majlis know that you have a kaffan or janazah kit on-hand so they can omit this step from the process of preparing your body for the grave.

Step 7: Get Your Secured Document Vault!

Many times we misplace documents or put them in secret places that no one else knows about but us. When emergency situations arise, those charged with handling the affairs are left in the dark, scrambling to find important and legal documents. You can eliminate this problem by securing your legal, private and confidential documents in a JWD vault. Your vault is accessible 24/7/365 and you can give permission to your spouse, family members, or your attorneys, imam or shaykh, or to responsibly designated community members to gain access to your documents in emergency situations and upon your death. Your secured vault only costs $19.99 per year to maintain and you can request physical copies of documents and have them shipped overnight or via priority mail so that those in need of these documents can have them quickly and eliminate any delays in legal, medical, burial and inheritance affairs.

Step 8: Donate To JWD Janazah Fund!

Many Muslims do not have the financial means to prepare for death, or they are neglectful and believe it is the duty of the ummah to take care of their funerals and burials. When we come across Muslims with this mindset or in this situation, we still have to make sure they receive Islamic funerals and burials. The Janazah Fund helps us to cover the expenses associated with their funerals and burials. Whatever you spend in the Cause of Allah (swt) and to uphold the sunnah of  Prophet Muhammad (saws), it is recorded with and rewarded by Allah (swt), Al-Haseeb. Give as much and as often as you desire and can; every penny will go toward the mission of JWD which is to make sure every Muslim and Muslimah gets a proper Islamic funeral and burial and have their affairs in Islamic order before they return to Allah (swt).

Janazah Insurance:

Select the amount of death benefit you want for yourself. Janazah Insurance starts at $20,000 Face Value for Death Benefits.

Ibn ‘Umar (ra) reports: “I came to the Prophet (saws) and I was the tenth of the first ten people (who embraced Islam). A man from among the Ansar got up and said, “O Prophet of Allah, who is the most sagacious and most prudent among the people?” He (rasoolullah [saws]) replied, “Those who are most aware of death and prepare themselves for it. They are the wisest of people and will have honor in this world and a generous reward in the Hereafter.” Narrated by At-Tabarani.
